Curtis Bigelow

Educator, Veteran & Educational Leader

About

Curtis Bigelow is an educator, veteran, and lifelong public servant whose career reflects a deep commitment to teaching, leadership, and service. Based in North Carolina, Curtis spent 14 years as a JROTC Instructor with Guilford County Schools, following a distinguished 16-year career in law enforcement and more than two decades of military service. Curtis retired after 30 years with the State of North Carolina and 20 years as a First Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. His military service includes deployment to Iraq in 2003, where he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon and the Presidential Unit Citation. These experiences shaped his leadership philosophy—one grounded in discipline, accountability, and servant leadership—which later became the foundation of his work in education. Academically, Curtis brings exceptional depth. He earned multiple degrees, including a master’s degree from American Public University and a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from University of the Cumberlands, graduating with honors. His academic focus centers on connecting real-world experience with classroom instruction to prepare students for both academic success and life beyond school. Now retired from full-time teaching and continuing to serve as a substitute educator, Curtis remains dedicated to shaping young minds. He is the author of Bathsheba, David’s Goliath and is currently developing a new educational book, 4th Place…Learning to Read, designed to help parents prepare children for critical third-grade literacy milestones. For Curtis Bigelow, education is not simply a profession—it is his calling.
